In a recent interview with Calciomercato, Kaio Jorge’s agent Andrea Bagnoli claimed that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the Santos youngster this summer. Bagnoli said,
“I know that he was followed with interest by Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Tottenham, but all the top clubs were informed.”
Jorge’s Rapid Rise In Brazilian Football
The Olinda-born talent has risen through the youth ranks of Santos and has successfully established himself as a valuable member of their first team. Jorge has featured in 28 matches for the Brazilian giants this season, finding the back of the net on eight occasions and securing three assists in the process across all fronts.
The 19-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 2.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Brasileirao so far. He even distributed the ball quite well in the final third after making 79.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Jorge has taken great strides towards improving his overall game over the past 18 months. Therefore, the Reds will do well to win the race for his services during this summer transfer window as he will be a great option for them to consider for the long run.
Should The Reds Move In For Jorge This Summer?
Jorge has decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs in behind the opponent’s defence. He is a specialist from dead-ball situations as he could curve in a few dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box. The Brazilian whizkid can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range and is slowly transforming himself into a good penalty taker as well. However, he is still quite raw and would need more time to find some consistency in terms of his goal-scoring at the highest level.
Liverpool could be an ideal destination for Jorge as he could grow into a world-class striker under the expert stewardship of Jurgen Klopp. The Santos starlet’s ceiling is sky-high, so the Reds should think about moving in for him before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
At 19, Jorge has plenty of time to develop into a top talent and could serve as a decent long-term successor to Roberto Firmino at the Merseyside club. Plus, he will bolster Liverpool’s youth teams considerably and could have a great resale value in the future even if things do not fall in place for him in English football.
