Chelsea will lock horns with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon with both London sides expected to go all out in search of the three points. The Blues managed to secure a convincing 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend which will keep them in high spirits ahead of this highly anticipated London derby.
Thomas Tuchel will stick with his favoured 3-4-2-1 formation and is expected to keep changes to a minimum for this game. Therefore, we can once again expect to see Timo Werner lead the charge for the West London giants up top while Romelu Lukaku might be available for a spot on the bench.
3-4-2-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Arsenal
Defence
Edouard Mendy will continue to feature in goal for the Blues after he secured a clean sheet against the Eagles last weekend. Tuchel could opt to stick with his back three of Trevoh Chalobah, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger for this game.
All three Chelsea centre-backs will have to be at the top of their game if they are to stop the Gunners from finding the back of the net during the 90 minutes. Thiago Silva should be fit for a spot on Tuchel’s bench.
Midfield
Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho will anchor the Chelsea midfield as they try to establish their superiority over Arsenal at the centre of the park. The midfield duo will also have to find some holes in the Gunners’ defence with their passing.
Marcos Alonso will get the nod to start as the left wing-back following a great display versus the Eagles last weekend. Cesar Azpilicueta would look to produce another energetic performance down the right flank. Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount are expected to operate on the shoulders of Timo Werner up top.
Reece James and Ben Chilwell will be available for selection on the bench as they offer cover for the wing-back positions. However, N’Golo Kante is a significant concern and would be in a race against time to be fit for this weekend.
Attack
As mentioned earlier, Werner will once again serve as the focal point of Tuchel’s attack. The German striker has to find a way to put in a goal-scoring performance or else risk being benched as Tuchel will probably prefer to play Romelu Lukaku regularly as his centre-forward up top. The Belgian marksman could be a part of the Chelsea bench this weekend if he can pass a late fitness test.
