In a recent report, Sassuolo News stated that West Ham United have already tabled an offer for Sassuolo right-back Mert Muldur this summer. It is understood that the Hammers made a €7m offer for the Turkish defender but the Italian outfit are demanding double that amount for their prized asset during this summer transfer window (via Sassuolo News).
Muldur’s Impressive Campaign In Serie A
Muldur had a solid campaign at the Mapei Stadium after putting in a series of eye-catching displays on the right side of Sassuolo’s defence. The 22-year-old picked up one assist and three yellow cards in 29 matches for the Italian club last season in various competitions.
The Wien-born sensation performed well to average 1.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and 0.7 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the right flank as he made 80.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Muldur’s current contract with Sassuolo expires in the summer of 2024, so the Italian outfit are under no immediate pressure to sell him. However, if the Hammers are willing to increase their offer, they might have a good shot at recruiting the Turkey international in this off-season.
What Will The Turkish Right-Back Add To David Moyes’ Side?
Muldur has decent pace under his belt and can make some clever runs down the right flank. He is a reliable defender at the back as he can scan the danger quickly and nip them in the bud by clearing his lines when needed. The ten-time Turkey international can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to earn possession back inside his half. He can also pass the ball well from the back but needs to work on improving his productivity in the attacking end of the pitch.
At 22, the best is yet to come from Muldur, so Moyes can expect to make the most out of his talents if he can bring him on board this summer. We can expect the Turkish talent to add plenty of bite and steel to West Ham’s backline and could go on to become a regular starter for them at the London Stadium in the coming seasons.
Muldur will undeniably increase competition for places within Moyes’ match-day squad and could help them push for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season. Therefore, the East Midlands outfit should consider doubling their offer to secure the services of the Turkish youngster before the start of the new campaign.
