In a recent report, The Daily Mirror offered an update on West Ham United‘s pursuit of Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham this summer. It is understood that the Blues centre-forward prefers to join the Hammers despite interest from other English clubs during this summer transfer window (via The Daily Mirror).
Abraham’s Lack Of Playing Time At The English Capital
Abraham encountered a tough time at Stamford Bridge despite making a promising start to the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. The 23-year-old netted 12 goals and earned six assists in 32 appearances for the West London outfit last season across all competitions.
The London-born talent struggled to be consistent with his offensive contributions as most of his playing time came off the bench. Abraham could only manage to average 1.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English first division. He also needs to figure out a way to be more careful when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opposition half as he completed 72.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
At 23, Abraham still has plenty of time to turn his career around for the better in English football. Hence, he could be tempted with the chance to join the Hammers this summer as he will be able to earn regular game time at the London Stadium in the coming seasons.
Is Abraham A Good Option For West Ham?
Abraham is a strong and athletic forward who can make some encouraging runs in the final third. When he is playing with confidence, he can be a deadly finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, the English centre-forward needs to figure out a way to be more consistent if he wants to be a top performer at the highest level.
At the moment, West Ham boss David Moyes is in dire need of a quality striker who can play as a back-up to Michail Antonio at the London Stadium. Hence, Abraham fits the bill perfectly as he is more than capable of competing with Antonio for a regular starting spot in the Hammers’ first XI next season.
The six-time England international could help the East London outfit push for a top-six finish in the Premier League. Therefore, it seems like Abraham would be a decent option for West Ham to pursue before the start of the new campaign.
