In a recent report, Eurosport mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in recruiting AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie this summer. It is understood the Ivory Coast international has just got a year left in his contract at San Siro which could open the door for Spurs to land him in this off-season (via Eurosport).
Kessie’s Outstanding Season In Italian Football
Kessie had an impressive season with the Milan giants after he put in a run of consistent displays for them at the centre of the park. The 24-year-old found the back of the net on 14 occasions and provided six assists in 50 matches for the Italian outfit in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Ouragahio-born talent was an influential presence at both ends of the pitch as he averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. He even distributed possession with a lot of conviction based on his pass completion rate of 88.9% in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
With less than 12 months left to run in Kessie’s contract, AC Milan would have no choice but to entertain offers for him this summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season. Hence, Spurs are in a strong position to sign him on a cut-price fee ahead of the new campaign.
Will Kessie Be A Good Fit For Nuno Espirito Santo?
Kessie is a hard-working holding midfielder who can cover a lot of ground for the benefit of his team. He can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to earn possession back in midfield. The 44-time Ivory Coast international can clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and has even added plenty of goals and assists to his game over the past 12 months. He usually works his socks off at the centre of the park and can even make some promising runs towards the opponent’s penalty box.
A two-way midfielder of Kessie’s skillset will be a shrewd addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s match-day squad as he is more than capable of earning a regular first-team place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the upcoming campaign.
At 24, Kessie is about to enter the prime years of his playing career, so Spurs can expect to get the best out of him in the coming seasons if they manage to bring him to the English capital during this summer transfer period. The AC Milan midfield ace will be a decent fit for Nuno Espirito Santo’s style of play and could go on to form a dominant holding midfield partnership with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg at North London.
