According to El Gol Digital, Tottenham have joined the race to sign Dani Olmo. The RB Leipzig starlet has emerged as a hot prospect in the market, following his performances in Euro 2020. Atletico Madrid were initially tagged as the favourites, but it appears Premier League duo Arsenal and Tottenham have entered the chase, as they look to prise him away from the Bundesliga.
Dani Olmo’s Success At RB Leipzig
Dani Olmo joined RB Leipzig in January 2020 for a fee of €22 million. He was coming on the back of a successful spell at Dinamo Zagreb but didn’t take too much time settling into the Bundesliga.
Under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann, the Spaniard became one of Leipzig’s main creative outlets. His five goals and ten assists last season is enough to signify the importance of the former La Masia talent, whose partnership with Christopher Nkunku and Marcel Sabitzer played a key role in helping Die Roten Bullen finish second in the Bundesliga.
In addition to his productivity, Olmo has earned quite a reputation for his flexibility. Although a playmaker by trade, the 23-year-old can operate on both flanks. He has even featured as a false-nine for Leipzig.
During his time under Nagelsmann, the Spaniard has polished his pressing as well. He is a clever presser of the ball, which combines well with his positioning sense, ultimately making him one of Spain’s most interesting attacking players.
Can He Solve Tottenham’s Woes?
The addition of Dani Olmo could be a massive coup for Tottenham Hotspur. Following the departure of Christian Eriksen, the Lilwyhites have been crying out for a consistent playmaker who can create chances and provide support for the likes of Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane.
Olmo fits the bill perfectly and could perhaps even be a better fit than Eriksen. He has the technical prowess and positioning sense, but the RB Leipzig star is also a useful asset in the first line of press.
It should tune in well with Nuno Espirito Santo’s pragmatic style of football. Not to mention, the 23-year-old’s versatility should help the Portuguese tactician effortlessly accommodate him into the starting eleven whilst making it easier to rotate the squad.
Ideally, Olmo could feature alongside Kane and Son, providing the former remains at Tottenham next season. This new-look attack, along with Nuno’s cautious approach, could make the Lilywhites hot favourites to return to top-four in Premier League in the upcoming campaign.
