In a recent report, Posta claimed that Real Madrid are locked in a three-way battle for Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos could face competition in the form of Manchester City and Barcelona in pursuit of the Turkey international in this off-season (via Posta).
Soyuncu’s Good Run Of Form At The King Power Stadium
It was another solid campaign for Soyuncu in English football as he was responsible for putting in some commanding displays at the heart of the Leicester backline. However, the Turkish defensive ace was sidelined for a lot of key matches due to an abductor tear.
The Izmir-born sensation participated in 32 matches for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the previous campaign, netting one goal and earning four yellow cards on all fronts. Despite his injury concerns, the 25-year-old proved his worth as a reliable centre-back by averaging 1.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season. He even distributed possession relatively well from the back after making 88% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
At 25, Soyuncu is about to embark upon the prime years of his playing career, so it makes sense for Los Blancos to engineer a move to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium during this summer transfer window.
Will Soyuncu Be The Right Fit For Real Madrid This Summer?
Soyuncu is a decent tackler of the ball and has got the hunger to secure possession back for his team. He is proficient at scanning out the danger quickly and is not afraid to clear his lines when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Turkish defender can play his way out from the back and can make full use of his robust 1.87m frame to dominate the opposition in the air. He can even put his body on the line to block some goal-bound shots from the opponent when needed.
A quality centre-back like Soyuncu will be a shrewd buy for Los Blancos if they can find a way to convince Leicester to part ways with their prized asset before the start of the new campaign. The Foxes star is good enough to rival Nacho and Eder Militao for a regular place in Ancelotti’s starting XI. Moreover, Soyuncu could serve as an ideal replacement for Raphael Varane, who is on Manchester United’s radar this summer.
