In a recent report, Tuttosport stated that Real Madrid are facing fierce competition for Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos will have to rival Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and AS Roma in pursuit of the Denmark international (via Tuttosport).
Damsgaard’s Up And Down Season In Italian Football
Damsgaard had a long and grueling season with Sampdoria recently but went on to impress with Denmark in the UEFA European Championships. The 21-year-old scored two goals and secured four assists in 37 matches for the Italian outfit in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Jyllinge-born sensation did a bit of everything for his side out on the wide areas as he averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he was a bit untidy when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half after he made 73.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Damsgaard is under contract at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium until the summer of 2024, so it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to seal a move for him on the cheap this summer. After his promising performances in the UEFA Euro 2020 recently, his stock has increased a lot in European football over the past few weeks.
Will Damsgaard Be A Good Option For Carlo Ancelotti?
Damsgaard has decent pace and agility in his locker and can make some quick sprints with the ball out on the flanks. The Danish youngster is highly versatile as he is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a box-to-box midfielder if required. His quickness and versatility make him an excellent choice for any top club in Europe, including Real Madrid in this off-season.
The eight-time Denmark international has added a few goals and assists to his game and can even get stuck in with some solid tackles to help his teammates out at the back defensively when needed. An energetic attacker of Damsgaard’s potential will be a shrewd option for the Madrid giants to consider before the start of the new campaign.
At 21, Damsgaard is a star in the making as he has a high ceiling to become a world-class winger someday. He would also have a great resale value in the long run if Los Blancos can figure out a way to acquire his services during this summer transfer window. Furthermore, we can expect him to offer some healthy competition for Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Marco Asensio for a place in Ancelotti’s first team.
