In a recent report, The Daily Mail revealed that Leeds United are among several clubs hoping to sign Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga this summer. It is understood that the Whites could face competition from Everton, Crystal Palace and Atalanta in the race to recruit the Ivory Coast wide player during this summer transfer window (via The Daily Mail).
Boga’s Unimpressive Season At The Mapei Stadium
The 24-year-old had an inconsistent campaign in Italian football as he struggled to be decisive in the final third. Boga banged in just four goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances for the Italian outfit last season across all fronts.
The Marseille-born sensation showed some flashes of what he is capable of out on the wide areas after he averaged 1.2 shots, 0.4 key passes and 3.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He even interchanged possession with his teammates quite well in the opposition half as he completed 89.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Boga has got less than a year remaining in his current contract at Sassuolo, so he will be a good, cut-price option for Leeds United to pursue in this off-season. An experienced manager like Marcelo Bielsa might fancy getting the best out of the Ivory Coast speedster when he hits his prime in the coming seasons.
Will Boga Be The Right Fit For The Whites?
Boga is a quick and agile winger who can complete some dangerous dribbles in the opposition half. He can be an unstoppable force when he is dribbling at full swing towards the opponent’s penalty area and can retain possession quite well for his team.
The Ivory Coast international packs a lot of venom with his strikes at goal but needs to work on improving his finishing in the attacking end of the pitch. He also has to figure out a way to be more creative if he intends to become a top performer in his position someday.
Boga will add a lot of pace and dynamism to Bielsa’s attack and has what it takes to become a real fan-favorite among the Leeds faithful at Elland Road. The Sassuolo star will also increase competition for places within Bielsa’s match-day squad. At 24, there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game as he is currently far from the finished product.
With all things considered, Boga will be a good fit for the Whites as long as they are willing to play him regularly over the next few seasons. The Leeds boss would be wise to move in for him quickly so that he can bolster his attacking options for the new Premier League campaign.
