In a recent report, The Northern Echo revealed that Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury is keen on a loan move to Newcastle United this summer. It is believed that the Foxes midfield ace is ready to push for a loan move to the Magpies in search of regular playing time in the upcoming campaign (via The Northern Echo).
Choudhury’s Sporadic Role At The King Power Stadium Last Season
Choudhury found game time hard to come by at the East Midlands club last season but managed to put in a few solid performances at the heart of Brendan Rodgers’ midfield. The Loughborough-born talent participated in 22 matches for the Foxes in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The 23-year-old saw most of his playing minutes come off the bench which explains why he could only average 0.9 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League last season. However, he deserves a pat on the back for becoming a tidy ball-distributor based on his pass completion rate of 82.3% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Choudhury needs a change of scenery either on loan or permanently if he intends to be a success story at the highest level. Hence, he might fancy making a switch to Newcastle where he will have a far better shot at earning regular playing time next season
What Will Choudhury Add To Steve Bruce’s Team?
Choudhury can get stuck in with some hard tackles to hamper the opposition’s rhythm in the game at the centre of the park. He has got decent defensive awareness that helps him pull off a few crucial interceptions for his side and is not afraid to put his foot through the ball to clear the danger when needed.
The English midfield ace can be a good passer of the ball when he is playing with confidence on the field. However, Choudhury needs to make sure that he gets more first-team starts in the future if he wants to fulfill his true potential.
Hence it makes sense for the Foxes outcast to make a loan move to Newcastle so that he can play a prominent role in Steve Bruce’s first team next season. A fruitful loan spell at St. James’ Park could do the player’s confidence a world of good.
We can expect Choudhury to add some bite and steel to the Magpies midfield. He will even offer some serious competition for Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff for a place in Bruce’s starting XI. Therefore, the Tyneside giants should prioritise on getting the English sensation on board as he will bolster their midfield options ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
