If a report from the Daily Record is believed to be true, Everton have joined the hunt for Rangers star Glen Kamara over a potential summer move. The clubs are circling like vultures to secure his services and the growing interest in the midfield ace has now heated up the transfer race.
The Toffees have made a controversial managerial appointment by roping Rafael Benitez as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor. The Spaniard had enormous success with bitter rivals Liverpool and his arrival at Goodison Park has led to a frenzy of rage among a section of Evertonians.
However, the show must go on and the club are desperate to be relevant again in the European circuit. Despite a blistering start and rare success against their Merseyside neighbours, Everton finished 10th last season in the Premier League standings. They have spent millions in recent years to bolster the setup, but their struggle continued due to lack of stability and vision.
Kamara had an exquisite 2020-21 campaign as he not only played a key role in Rangers’ league glory but also enjoyed a majestic Europa League run from the middle of the park. Moreover, the Finnish international received accolades for his EURO 2020 performance.
Everton have ample central midfield options in their ranks. Allan, Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Tom Davies have mostly been the first-team stars who operated from the centre of the pitch, whereas Jean-Philippe Gbamin is expected to have a run of games overcoming his injury nightmares. Fabian Delph has also been utilized sporadically since leaving Manchester City a couple of summers ago.
Why Everton Should Sign Kamara Despite Being Well Equipped In Midfield
Having said that, the new boss must have the liberty to recruit names of his preference and implement a brand of football that suits the Toffees well. While Allan and Gbamin are deep-lying playmakers, the likes of Davies and Doucouré prefer box-to-box movement to carry the ball forward.
Kamara, on the other hand, is known for keeping things calm in midfield with his passing and holding attributes. He has a strong physique, great technical ability and a smart sense of positioning. His off the ball work rate is impressive and the overall maturity of his game should see him offer more than what Gomes has produced so far in the Everton line-up.
The 25-year-old failed to make the cut at Arsenal but earned fame under Steven Gerrard soon after plying his trade in Ibrox since January 2019. He appeared 51 times last season in Rangers’ colours and the Blue half of Merseyside must tie the midfielder down to let him finish the unfinished business in the English top flight.
