In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Everton are facing stiff competition in pursuit of Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga this summer. It is believed that the Toffees will have to rival Atalanta, Leeds United and Crystal Palace in the race to recruit the Ivory Coast international during this summer transfer period (via The Daily Mail).
Boga’s Inconsistent Form In Italian Football Last Season
Boga had an up and down season at the Mapei Stadium as he struggled to find consistency in terms of his end-product in the final third. He could only manage to score four goals and secure two assists in 28 matches for the Italian club in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old caught the eye by averaging 1.2 shots, 0.4 key passes and 3.2 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 89.4% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Boga has shown some flashes of his brilliance but is in dire need to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to become a consistent performer at the top level. Still, the Toffees should think about making a move to bring him to Goodison Park this summer as he could be a great option as an impact substitute for Rafael Benitez to call upon off the bench at Goodison Park next season.
What Will Boga Add To Benitez’s Side?
Boga boasts excellent pace and can turn on the afterburners to beat his marker out on the wide areas. The Marseille-born wing wizard excels at getting to the byline and can be a hard man to stop when he is running at full speed towards the opponent’s penalty box.
The three-time Ivory Coast international packs a lot of power with his shot attempts. However, as mentioned earlier, he needs to be more clinical in the final third if he wants to become a world-class player in his position someday.
Boga is primarily a left-sided winger but can even fill in as an attacking midfielder if needed. Hence, he could prove to be a shrewd addition to Benitez’s squad ahead of the new campaign. The Ivory Coast winger will undoubtedly increase competition for places within Everton’s squad. Boga will also add plenty of pace to Benitez’s frontline and could give the Toffees some natural width out on the flanks. Hence, the Merseyside outfit should think about going all out to win the race for the Sassuolo attacker’s services during this summer transfer window.
