In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Juventus defender Merih Demiral wants to leave amid recent interest from Everton this summer. It is believed that the Toffees are at the front of the queue in the race to recruit the Turkish centre-back during this summer transfer period (via Calciomercato).
Demiral’s Injury Frustrations At The Allianz Stadium
Demiral had a frustrating time with Juve last season as he was sidelined for several matches due to multiple injuries. The 23-year-old played in 24 matches for the Italian giants in the previous campaign, picking up one assist and four yellow cards across various competitions.
The Turkish defensive ace deserves a pat on the back for averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football last season. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 94% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Demiral needs a change of scenery if he wants to kickstart his playing career as his spell with Juve has been far from convincing to say the least. Maybe he could be tempted with a chance to join the Toffees as he will have a far better shot of becoming a regular starter in the coming seasons.
Demiral Wants To Leave Juventus This Summer: Big Boost For Everton?
Standing at 1.90m, Demiral can use his robust frame to win some 50-50 aerial duels for his team. On his day, he is a decent tackler of the ball and shows great hunger to win possession back for his side. The Turkey international can also clear his lines when the opposition are looking to threaten his goal. However, he needs to find some consistency if he wants to become a top performer at the highest level.
At 23, Demiral still has plenty of time to turn his career around but his recent injury record makes him a risky acquisition for Everton to pursue in this off-season. The Toffees would be better off opting for a more proven talent if they want to compete for some major trophies over the next few years.
However, the Turkish talent is good enough to fight for a regular starting place at Goodison Park in the coming seasons. He will also increase competition for places within Everton’s match-day squad. Now that Demiral has decided that he wants to leave Juventus, it will be a huge boost for the Toffees as they can now have a good chance of recruiting him ahead of the new campaign.
