In a recent tweet, renowned journalist Rudy Galetti stated that Chelsea have identified Inter Milan centre-forward Romelu Lukaku as a summer target. It is understood that the Blues could make a move to bring the Belgian international back to Stamford Bridge, given the complications in recruiting Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland during this summer transfer window.

Lukaku’s Outstanding Record In Italian Football Last Season
Lukaku had an outstanding campaign with Inter in the Serie A as his goal-scoring contributions helped the Italian side secure the league title earlier this summer. The 28-year-old deserves a lot of credit for banging in 30 goals and providing ten assists for the Milan giants last season in all competitions.
The Belgian international was a consistent performer as the focal point of the Inter attack, as evidenced by his average of 2.7 shots, 1.4 key passes 1.5 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. However, he should have been tidier with his ball distribution after he only made 72.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
At 28, Lukaku is currently playing at his prime, so he might fancy sealing a return to the Premier League to play for his former employers Chelsea once again in the upcoming campaign. He has matured as a footballer during his time in Italy and could prove to be a valuable addition to Thomas Tuchel’s squad this summer.
Is Lukaku The Right Choice For The Blues This Summer?
Lukaku can use his powerful 1.91m frame to establish his authority over the opposition defenders in the air and is an excellent header of the ball inside the penalty box. The Belgian centre-forward is also not shy of working hard to run the channels but needs to work on improving his first touch when controlling the ball in the final third.
The Inter star is well-equipped to lead the line for the Blues once again next season, so Tuchel should think about engineering a move to land him in this off-season. Lukaku is a world-class striker who would add plenty of goals and physicality to the Chelsea frontline.
Hence, the Belgian powerhouse will be an excellent choice for the West London outfit to consider before the start of the new season. He will be a significant upgrade over Olivier Giroud, who left the Blues to join AC Milan this summer. Lukaku is also far more prolific than Timo Werner and Kai Havetz which makes him an ideal candidate to spearhead Tuchel’s attack in the coming seasons.
