As confirmed in an official statement, Bayern Munich have loaned out Sarpreet Singh to SSV Jahn Regensburg. The New Zealand midfielder of Indian origin has joined the 2.Bundesliga club on a season-long loan deal in an attempt to prove himself at the professional level. Regensburg doesn’t appear to have any buyout clause available in Singh’s loan contract.
Sarpreet Singh’s Spell At Bayern Munich
A native of Auckland, Sarpreet Singh joined Bayern Munich in 2019, in a €650k move from Wellington Phoenix. He featured in 22 matches in 3.Liga for FC Bayern II, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists.
Singh’s impressive performances convinced the club to send him out on loan to 1.FC Nurnberg last summer, in a higher level of 2.Bundesliga. Unfortunately, the attacker could only muster five league starts for the second division side before returning to Munich in January. He played the remainder of the campaign with FC Bayern II.
The 22-year-old scored three goals but wasn’t able to prevent Bayern II from getting eliminated from the third division. The team lacked a proper goalscorer, especially with Jann-Fiete Arp struggling to deliver the goods.
Does He Have Any Future At Bayern?
Sarpreet Singh’s loan move to Jahn Regensburg is hardly surprising as the current senior side of Bayern Munich has no shortage of talented playmakers. Although Thomas Muller is nearing the final stage of his career, he is still considered the backbone of the club’s creative unit and will remain a key player for the Bavarians.
Corentin Tolisso, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala are all set for a prolonged stay in Munich. It is difficult to find a proper route to the senior side for young Sarpreet, whose prospects at the club remains bleak unless he can emerge as a breakout star in the second division next season.
Can Singh Succeed At Regensburg?
After the struggles at Nurnberg, Regensburg seems like a sensible destination for Sarpreet Singh as he looks to try his luck once again in the second division. Unlike Nurnberg, the Bavarian outfit do have a major shortage of options, especially in the number ten department.
It is a hole Singh could fill. In fact, his technical ability, combined with his work ethic and goalscoring prowess could be useful for Mersad Salimbegovic’s men next season, as they hope to push for a mid-table finish.
