In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are open to selling Antoine Griezmann this summer. It is believed that the Catalan giants are willing to entertain offers for the French striker during this summer transfer period (via Mundo Deportivo).
Griezmann’s Decent Run Of Form In Spanish Football
Griezmann had another positive season at the Nou Camp as he managed to help Barca win the Copa del Rey earlier this year. The 30-year-old found the back of the net on 20 occasions and picked up 13 assists in 51 matches for the Catalan side in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The Macon-born talent did well to find some consistency with his attacking contributions based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in La Liga last season. He was even careful when distributing the ball in the attacking end of the field, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.3% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
The veteran forward’s current contract with Barca is set to run out in the summer of 2024. At 30, Griezmann has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Hence, the Frenchman might be tempted with a chance to switch clubs as he still has what it takes to win a few more trophies for another top club in Europe.
Barcelona Open To Selling Griezmann: Good Move For Both Parties?
Griezmann can be a composed presence in front of the opposition goal when is playing with confidence on the field. He is a decent penalty taker and has also got the vision to pick out a decisive pass in the final third.
The French sensation has contributed by scoring and creating his fair share of goals for Barca in recent seasons. He can also time his runs well to get in behind the opponent’s backline but will only serve as a good, short-term option for most top teams in Europe.
Barca are currently in the midst of a financial crisis and are in dire need of reducing their wage bill this summer. Hence, it is only logical for them to cash in on Griezmann if they receive a suitable offer for him in this off-season. The French marksman can even benefit from a change of scenery as it will offer him a chance to make a fresh start away from the Nou Camp. With all things considered, it will be a good move for both the player and the Catalan club to part ways with each other in search of greener pastures in the coming seasons.
