According to Mirror, as cited by Express, Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for Max Aarons. The Norwich City right-back has emerged as the latest option for Mikel Arteta, as he continues his plans to undergo a massive squad overhaul in the summer. The Canaries do not want to sell their prized asset, but might be forced to cash in on him, should Arsenal come up with a bid in the region of around £25 million.
The End Of The Road For Bellerin?
Arsenal’s desire to sign a new right-back does indicate the uncertain nature of Hector Bellerin’s prospect at the club. The Spaniard is not the club’s only viable option at right-back, but his main alternative Cedric Soares hasn’t done much to impress Mikel Arteta and the supporters.
Bellerin himself has endured a steady decline in recent years. A set of constant injury problems have had a major impact on his pace, acceleration and attacking prowess out wide. As such, he has not been particularly useful in the fullback position, often struggling to offer consistency or quality for the Arsenal setup.
The former La Masia talent’s decline doesn’t bode well for Arsenal, as he is among the highest-paid defenders in the Premier League. And with the 26-year-old not appearing to be an ideal fit under Arteta, a move away from Emirates is certainly on the cards.
Bellerin’s potential departure should serve as a major financial boost for the Gunners, allowing them the opportunity to revamp the right-back department with the addition of a new players.
Is Aarons Up For The Job?
Given the current financial climate in Europe, Arsenal cannot afford to falter in their pursuit of a new right-back. They are in need of a massive overhaul but with the economic restraints, signing Max Aarons will certainly be a gamble.
However, it is a gamble worth taking, as far as Arteta is concerned. The Englishman, a product of the Norwich City youth academy, is truly a talented fullback who has had an astounding level of success during his time at the club.
In addition to starring in the Championship, Aarons has proved his quality in the Premier League as well during the 2019/20 campaign. His offensive prowess and tactical flexibility should make him an ideal cog at right-back for Arsenal, especially if Arteta does intend to go with a wingback system in the upcoming campaign.
From pace to athleticism, Aarons can provide everything Bellerin was known for. And at the age of just 21, he has the potential to improve even more, thus making him a major coup for the Gunners this summer.
