According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal have expressed interest in Thilo Kehrer. The Paris Saint-Germain defender is facing an uncertain future at Parc des Princes following the addition of Sergio Ramos. His initial wish is to remain in Paris, but depending on the club’s activity during the remainder of the summer, he might be forced to leave, with Arsenal on red alert.
Thilo Kehrer’s Spell At PSG
Thilo Kehrer joined PSG back in 2017 for a fee of €37 million. He moved to Paris in search of superstardom following a successful season with FC Schalke in the Bundesliga.
However, the German never really managed to live up to his potential during his time in France. Despite making almost 100 competitive appearances for PSG, the defender has had difficulties in nailing down a regular place in the starting eleven, often finding himself competing with the likes of Thomas Meunier, Colin Dagba, as well as the centre-backs like Marquinhos and Thiago Silva.
That said, Kehrer is still a valued asset due to his versatility in defence. A centre-back by trade, the former Schalke prodigy can operate as a right-back and even as a holding midfielder, if required.
The 24-year-old is also known for his aggressive nature of play, combined with his ball-winning abilities. In addition, the German international has a vast amount of experience at the highest level of football with over 150 combined appearances in Bundesliga and Ligue 1 as well as nine caps for Die Mannschaft.
How Does He Fit In At Arsenal?
It is no secret Arsenal are in the market for defensive reinforcements. It appears Mikel Arteta is unhappy with the lack of quality in his ranks, and that is where Thilo Kehrer could be an interesting option for the Gunners.
Despite his struggles at PSG, the German is a talented centre-back, who can effortlessly settle into the Premier League. His aggression, versatility and technical prowess make him a well-rounded option.
In fact, Kehrer will be an ideal upgrade over Calum Chambers. His versatility might also help Arteta prepare for life without Hector Bellerin at right-back, while the PSG star can always cover for the central defensive options like Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari.
However, it remains to be seen how much PSG demand for their star defender this summer. After the arrival of Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi, the French outfit will be keen on recouping as much as possible from the sale of Kehrer, but Arsenal certainly cannot afford to exceed the €20 million mark for the German international.
