In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor labeled Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore as a perfect option for Liverpool this summer. Agbonlahor said,
“Yes, I think it would be a good signing.
“It would give Liverpool a plan B. You saw it for Spain, he was there as an option, a plan B.
“Liverpool haven’t really got that at the moment. Liverpool’s bench is very poor at the moment. When you’re looking at [Xhederan] Shaqiri, [Divock] Origi.
“They need someone who can come on for Mane or Salah who’s different. I think Traore would be the perfect player.”
Traore’s Lack Of Productivity In English Football Last Season
Traore endured an underwhelming campaign at the Molineux Stadium as he struggled to find consistency in terms of his end product in the final third. The Spanish talent banged in three goals and grabbed three assists in 41 matches for Wolves last season on all fronts.
However, the 25-year-old managed to catch the eye by averaging 1.2 shots, 1.5 key passes and 4.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He even distributed possession relatively well in the opponent’s half after making 76.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Traore A Good Fit For Liverpool This Summer?
Traore is blessed with electric pace that he can make full use of to breeze past his marker in the opposition half. He has a terrific burst of speed and can be unstoppable when left isolated in a 1v1 footrace. However, the Spanish talent needs to work on improving his decision-making if he wants to score and create more goals in the coming seasons.
Furthermore, the Wolves speedster has a strong and athletic frame that makes him quite a force in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He is also versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline. At 25, Traore is about to enter his prime, so the Merseyside giants can expect to make the most of his talents if they can find a way to get a deal done for him this summer.
The six-time Spain international has all the skillset required to challenge Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane for a place on the flanks at Anfield in the coming seasons. He will also serve as a great impact substitute for Jurgen Klopp to call upon off the bench if needed. With all things considered, Traore could turn out to be a good fit for the Reds as Klopp might be the ideal man to get the best out of him at Merseyside over the next few years.
