In a recent report, La Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that AC Milan are lining up Real Madrid playmaker Isco as a summer target. It is understood that the Madrid star is on the Italian outfit’s radar in this off-season (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).
Isco’s Underwhelming Campaign In Spanish Football
Isco endured a frustrating season with Los Blancos recently as he struggled to find any form for them in the attacking third of the field. The Spanish sensation appeared in 29 matches for the Spanish giants in the previous campaign, picking up just two assists in the process across all competitions.
The 29-year-old failed to be consistent with his offensive contributions after he averaged 0.8 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League last season. However, he was excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opposition half based on his pass success rate of 89.1% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Isco is under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium until the end of next season, so Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has no choice but to cash in on him this summer or else risk losing him on a free transfer next year.
Should Real Madrid Cash In On Isco This Summer?
Isco remains an exciting dribbler with the ball and can still make some dangerous runs in the opposition half. He has even got the vision to cut open the opponent’s defence with a killer pass but lacks confidence when trying to finish off chances himself in the final third. Isco is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a left-sided winger or play as a box to box midfielder if needed.
The Spaniard can deliver a few inviting crosses into the danger area but has a low work rate which can sometimes make him a liability on the field. He has also been quite injury-prone in recent seasons, so it makes a lot of sense for Ancelotti to cash in on him during this summer transfer period.
Isco is currently surplus to requirements at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, so a change of scenery could do his confidence a world of good as he will be able to play more often in the coming seasons. Hence, Los Blancos should entertain offers for the Spanish playmaker this summer so that Ancelotti can use the funds generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his squad before the start of the new campaign.
