A report from Voetbal 24 cites British media in suggesting that Tottenham are in the market for Ethan Horvath. The Club Brugge star is believed to keen on joining a bigger club in the summer, with the Premier League giants listed as the likely destination. Horvath’s contract at Bruges expires at the end of this month, either way, meaning the goalkeeper will be available to join Spurs for free.
Ethan Horvath: Player Profile
A native of Colorado, Ethan Horvath is regarded as one of the United States’ finest goalkeepers. He initially made his breakthrough in Europe with Molde – a club he joined in 2017.
Horvath made 56 competitive appearances for Molde before moving to Club Brugge in 2017 for a fee of just €1 million. The 26-year-old, though, hasn’t particularly had a successful spell in Belgium.
Although he was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during the early stages of his spell, Horvath has now lost his place to Simon Mignolet. As a result, the USMNT international could only muster one league appearance this past season and is now set to leave the club.
Despite his struggles at Club Brugge, however, Horvath is highly rated for his shot-stopping abilities. His imposing 1.95m frame makes him an intimidating presence inside the box while helping him cover a large area in between the sticks. He isn’t the best when it comes to spraying passes from deep, though.
Is Horvath A Good Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of reinforcements in the goalkeeping department this summer. Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart are in the final stages of their respective careers and are facing an uncertain future at the club while Paulo Gazzaniga is set to leave after failing to earn the trust.
The addition of Horvath, in that regard, could make sense for the Lilywhites, especially considering his status as a free agent. The 26-year-old might not be an ideal replacement for Lloris in terms of quality, but he does have a lot of potential.
In fact, the American international, who has won seven caps for his country so far, is a far better investment in the secondary goalkeeper position than someone like Hart.
Horvath’s status as a young keeper should also keep Tottenham’s first-choice option on alert, knowing his competitor isn’t simply here to warm the bench. Fabio Paratici, therefore, should certainly sanction a move for the former Molde goalkeeper, as he continues his rebuilding process after joining the club this summer.
