I have been told by two journalists based in London who covers Chelsea that Rangers are definitely one of the teams interested in taking Billy Gilmour on loan. Yesterday, I had back and forth with both of them as I wanted to understand how realistic the deal is in reality. Both of them have direct access to Chelsea officials, and both were adamant that definitely Rangers interested in loan deal for Billy Gilmour.
However, there are a lot of caveats involved. First Chelsea expects the club taking Gilmour on loan to pay his entire wages. If Rangers want to even be in with a shout, that is the very minimum. Also, Tuchel wants the midfielder to experience competitive football week in and week out instead of sitting on the bench for long periods of time. Obviously, Rangers can do that.
While Premier League football would obviously be preferred, a case could be made if Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. If that happens, and if Rangers do sell one of their top players (let’s say Kamara for argument’s sake, eesh), finances should not be an issue.
Given how young players have recently performed at Ibrox under Gerrard, Rangers could arguably be the best destination for young Billy Gilmour.
