In a recent report, The Northern Echo has revealed that Newcastle United are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer. It is understood that the Magpies are showing interest in acquiring the English centre-forward’s services for the upcoming campaign (via The Northern Echo).
Abraham’s Lacklustre Season At Stamford Bridge
Abraham has gone through a difficult spell under Thomas Tuchel’s stewardship and is in dire need to secure more game time if he wants to get back to playing his best football. The English frontman has banged in 12 goals and earned six assists in 32 matches this term across multiple competitions.
A lot of Abraham’s appearances have come as a substitute which explains why he has only managed to average 1.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. He also needs to improve his accuracy when distributing the ball out from the back after making 72.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
The 23-year-old could flourish playing regular football at St. James’ Park next season if Newcastle can find a way to land him during the summer transfer window. He will be a major coup for the Magpies even it is on a season-long loan deal as he could go on to form a dangerous attacking partnership with Callum Wilson at Tyneside next season.
Will Abraham Be The Right Choice For Bruce?
Abraham is a powerful runner with the ball and can use his robust 1.90m frame to hold possession up for his team. The English striker can score goals regularly when he is playing with confidence on the field.
Newcastle need another goal-scorer who could take some of the load off Wilson’s shoulders in the next Premier League campaign. Abraham fits the bill perfectly as he is a streaky scorer who can also be an ideal target man for the Magpies up top, especially when they rely so much on whipping in some decent long balls into the opposition penalty box.
There is no doubt that Abraham will be a decent choice for the Tyneside outfit as he is good enough to become a prolific goal-scorer under an experienced manager like Steve Bruce. However, there are some concerns over whether he can overcome his recent injury concerns and remain fit for the whole season.
