Below are the France players rated in their opening match of the Euro 2020 against Germany.
France Players Rated In Narrow Win Against Germany
Hugo Lloris: 7/10
The Spurs shot-stopper didn’t have much to do as the defence did most of the heavy lifting. Nonetheless, his ball distribution was decent tonight.
Lucas Hernandez: 9/10
Fortune favours the brave and Hernandez certainly proved it tonight. He received Pogba’s cross and fired it across the goal only for Mats Hummels to guide it into his own net.
Presnel Kimpembe: 8/10
It’d be an understatement to say that the Ligue 1 centre-half was immense at the heart of the France defence tonight. He made numerous blocks, tackles, and challenges to prevent the opposition from finding the back of the net as the entire backline looked impenetrable.
Raphael Varane: 9/10
The Real Madrid defender kept things in order at the back. He put up a commanding display alongside Kimpembe and secured a well-deserved clean sheet.
Benjamin Pavard: 8/10
The Bundesliga right-back made some good attacking runs and fared exceptionally well defensively.
Adrien Rabiot: 8/10
The Juventus midfielder operated quite deep in order to facilitate Paul Pogba’s movement throughout the 90 minutes. He shielded the backline effectively and hit the bar in the second half as well.
N’Golo Kante: 8/10
It’s quite an advantage when you have someone like N’Golo Kante playing for your team. The Chelsea starlet made numerous recoveries at the centre of the park, put an end to Germany’s counter-attacks, and even played some brilliant forward passes.
Paul Pogba: 9/10
The Manchester United man sprayed some nice balls upfield as he kept creating chances for the frontmen. He also showed a tremendous work rate at the centre of the park as he was at the heart of everything.
Antoine Griezmann: 7/10
The La Liga star was rather played in an unusual position but he fared well over the course of the game.
Kylian Mbappe: 9/10
The Paris Saint-Germain striker deserved a couple of goals to his name tonight. Mainly operating down the left-hand side, he was simply too swift for the opposition defenders as they struggled to keep up with his pace.
Karim Benzema: 7/10
The Real Madrid forward looked a bit off in the early stages of the game but got better as the game went on. He dropped deep to link up the play on a couple of occasions and nearly got his name on the scoresheet in the second forty-five minutes.
