In a recent report, RMC Sport has claimed that Manchester United have identified Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as a priority target. It is believed that the Red Devils are set to hold talks with the French midfield ace’s representatives soon but could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain in pursuit of the player (via RMC Sport).
Camavinga’s Incredible Rise In French Football
It was another solid campaign for Camavinga at Roazhon Park after he put in a run of commanding displays for Rennes at the centre of the park. The Miconje-born talent participated in 39 matches for the French outfit last season, netting one goal and providing three assists on all fronts.
The 18-year-old caught the eye by averaging 2.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 89% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Camavinga will be a decent signing for Man United as he has already begun to show some promising signs over the past couple of seasons. However, at 18, there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game, so the Red Devils would have to be patient if they want to get the best out of him in the years to come.
Will Camavinga Be A Good Option For Man United This Summer?
Camavinga can do a bit of everything in midfield and is proficient at influencing the game at both ends of the pitch. He hardly gives away the ball and can make a few powerful runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box. Camavinga can use his robust frame to dominate the opposition in the air but can sometimes be caught out of position because of his eagerness to join in on the attack.
The three-time France international has got a good work rate and can create some inviting chances for others around him. He can even get stuck in with some crunching tackles to win the ball back for his side. Camavinga doesn’t take too many chances when clearing his lines at the back.
A young two-way midfielder of Camavinga’s potential will undeniably be an excellent option for the Red Devils this summer. The French whizkid is already good enough to challenge for a regular first-team place at the Theatre of Dreams. We can expect him to add plenty of bite and steel to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield department and will increase competition for places within his squad. All in all, Camavinga will be a great, long-term signing for the Red Devils if they can get a deal done for him in this off-season.
