In a recent report, The Telegraph revealed that Manchester City are preparing to make a record-breaking move for Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish this summer. It is believed that Man City’s talks with the England midfielder are expected to be ‘straightforward as they look to strengthen their first team by procuring him in this off-season (via The Telegraph).
Grealish’s Majestic Season In English Football
Grealish had one of the best campaigns of his playing career recently as he continued to flourish as the most influential member of the Villans squad. Despite missing a few games due to injury, the 25-year-old deserves a lot of credit for finding the back of the net on seven occasions while securing 12 assists in 27 appearances for Dean Smith’s side last season across all competitions.
The Birmingham-born attacker was a consistent performer at Villa Park in the previous campaign when he averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 1.9 shots, 3.1 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was also a tidy distributor of the ball from the left flank after he made 83.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
The way Grealish has been playing for his boyhood club over the past couple of seasons, it is no wonder that Man City are planning to make a big-money move to bring him to the Etihad Stadium during this summer transfer window.
Will Grealish Be A Good Fit For Man City?
Grealish has a deceptively quick presence in the opposition half and can be a hard man to stop when he is running at full speed towards the byline. He gets fouled a lot because of his playing style but can also contribute by scoring or creating goals in the final third.
The seven-time England international can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has also been the man for the big occasion during his time with the Villans. Hence, Grealish won’t be afraid of the spotlight if Man City end up securing his signature before the start of the new campaign.
The English talent is also a natural leader who would add plenty of goals and creativity to Pep Guardiola’s frontline at the Etihad. He could serve as an ideal replacement for Raheem Sterling but could hamper the development of someone like Phil Foden who has done so well as a left-sided wide player under Guardiola’s stewardship recently. At 25, Grealish’s best years are ahead of him, so there is a real good chance that he would be able to lead Man City to some titles on his own if Guardiola decides to put his faith in the Villans captain this summer.
