In a recent report, Portuguese news outlet A Bola has stated that Liverpool are set to step up their pursuit of FC Porto playmaker Otavio this summer. It is believed that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is eagerly pushing to advance talks with the player over a potential move to Anfield during this summer transfer period (via A Bola).
Otavio’s Brilliant Form In Portuguese Football Last Season
Otavio experienced a productive season with Porto after he produced a series of impressive displays for them in Portuguese football. The Brazilian attacker found the back of the net on five occasions and grabbed 12 assists in 42 matches for his current club in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The 26-year-old performed well to average 2.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.4 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Liga NOS campaign. He has even distributed possession relatively well in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Otavio is currently under contract at the Estádio do Dragão until the summer of 2025, so it would take a sizable offer for Liverpool to convince Porto to part ways with their prized asset before the start of the new campaign. If his recent form is anything to go by, Klopp would be wise to try everything in his power to land him this summer.
Will Otavio Be The Right Choice For The Reds This Summer?
Otavio can read the game well and is proficient at getting himself into some dangerous areas in and around the opponent’s penalty box. The Brazilian sensation is a joy to watch when he is dribbling at full swing in the final third. He has got a lot of pace and ball control to get past his marker. Otavio can even chip in by netting and creating his fair share of goals up top.
Hence, the Porto talent will be a welcome addition to Liverpool’s squad as he will add some goals and creativity to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. He could also serve as a perfect replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who has decided to leave the Merseyside club this summer.
At 26, Otavio has been playing at the top of his game of late and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Anfield if Klopp can successfully get him on board in this off-season. With all things considered, the Brazilian playmaker will be a decent choice for the Merseysiders as he could help them challenge Manchester City once again for the Premier League title in the upcoming campaign.
