In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb has mentioned that Liverpool have set their sights on Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Pascal Groß this summer. It is understood that the Reds are showing interest in securing the signature of the German midfield ace in this off-season (via Tuttomercatoweb).
Groß’s Impressive Form At The American Express Community Stadium Last Season
The 30-year-old has caught the eye with his performances for the Seagulls last season when he established himself as a key member of Graham Potter’s defence. Groß made 40 appearances for Brighton last season, netting three goals and providing ten assists across multiple competitions.
The Mannheim-born talent has performed well to influence the game at both ends of the field by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.9 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.0 crosses per game in Premier League football. He was also quite accurate with his ball distribution after completing 81.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Groß is currently playing at a high level and could be a wise addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad this summer. He is quite creative with his passing and could add another dimension to Liverpool’s midfield if the Reds can bring him to Anfield during this summer transfer window.
Is Groß The Right Choice For The Reds?
Groß has a wide range of passes in his locker and possesses the vision to unlock the opposition defence with a decisive through-ball in the attacking end of the pitch. He excels at whipping in some dangerous crosses into the opponent’s penalty box and can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. The German sensation can protect his backline well by getting stuck in with a few tackles in midfield.
A two-way midfielder of Groß’s skillset could play a useful role under Klopp’s tutelage as he will add a lot of creativity and depth to Liverpool’s midfield. Plus, we can expect him to provide some healthy competition for Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones for a starting place in Klopp’s first team.
All in all, Groß will be a decent choice for the Merseyside giants to consider in this off-season but there are some question marks over whether the Brighton star can replicate his good form at Anfield where he will be expected to perform at his best week in week out.
Groß is yet to taste success at the highest level, so he could be tempted with the opportunity to join the Reds this summer. The German’s playmaking ability makes him a good option for Liverpool to pursue ahead of the new season.
