According to Radio Huesca, as cited by Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are closing in on the capture of Javi Galan. It appears the Premier League outfit are ready to pay up for the Huesca left-back, who reportedly has a £3.5 million release clause. As such, the defender’s move to Elland Road could be imminent – making him the first potential signing for Leeds United for the new season.
Javi Galan: Player Profile
A former member of the Cordoba youth team, Javi Galan, joined Huesca in January for a fee of £900k. He played half a season in LaLiga before his side got relegated in the Segunda Division.
The defender worked his way back into the top, playing a key role in the promotion winning 2019/20 campaign, during which he made 28 appearances for the club. Galan, however, rose to prominence with his performances in the recently concluded 2020/21 campaign. With 37 league appearances, the 26-year-old was an ever-present member of the Huesca backline, chipping in with one goal and two assists.
Standing at only 5 feet and 6 inches, Galan might not be particularly impressive on the physical side of the game. But, what he lacks in physique, he makes up for it with his incredible vision, offensive prowess and chance creation.
The 26-year-old is a phenomenal passer of the game, as you would expect from any Spaniard. However, what makes him such a sought-after talent is his ability to deliver crosses into the box – one that goes hand in hand with Leeds United’s style of play.
Is Galan A Good Option For Leeds United?
Leeds United are in the market for a new left-back this summer, amid uncertainties over the future of Ezgjan Alioski, whose contract at Elland Road is officially set to expire at the end of the month.
Even if the North Macedonian star ends up remaining at the club, Marcelo Bielsa still needs to find more depth in the left-back department after utilising Stuart Dallas in a more central for the most part of the campaign.
Javi Galan might not be the fanciest of options, but with his performances in Laliga, the Huesca fullback has indicated his credibility at the highest level of football.
There is no secret that Bielsa prefers to play with Spanish footballers, as it serves as a massive boost in communication. They also boast the technical prowess that is ideally suited to the Argentine’s tactical setup. Galan should be no different, and for a fee of just £3.5 million, he will be an absolute bargain for the Whites.
