During an interview with Football Insider, Kevin Phillips has backed Leeds United to move for Amari Muller. The former England striker believes that the youngster could prove to be a shrewd piece of business as Leeds United look towards the future.
“If Leeds are in advanced talks with him then the kid’s a hot prospect. If he can follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham and Demari Gray, then he will turn out to be a very shrewd signing. Leeds are obviously looking to the future as well as now.”, Miller told Football Insider.
Who Is Amari Miller?
Following in on the footsteps of Jude Bellingham and Demarai Gray, Amari Miller is the latest Birmingham City youth prospect to come out of the academy this season.
A right-winger by trade, Miller has impressed the onlookers with his flair and dynamism upfront. He has also showcased excellent pace – making him an asset for the Birmingham reserve side this past season.
The youngster has been rewarded for his performances too, notably making his Championship debut in the 2-0 win over Stoke City in April. He has gone on to make five Championship appearances, even starting Birmingham’s last two games of the season.
Miller, though, is currently a part of the Birmingham reserve side rather than the first team. He is, however, expected to earn a promotion to the senior side, unless a club like Leeds United snap him up this summer.
One For The Future?
Following a successful return to the Premier League Leeds United will be keen on adding more quality to their squad in order to avoid a second season syndrome. The club, nevertheless, has shown a lot of desire to build a core for the future as well, which was evident in their market activity last summer.
Indeed, the Whites snapped up talents like Sam Greenwood, Crysencio Summerville and Joel Gelhardt among many others. A move for Amari Miller thus makes sense.
The young winger could be a major boost as the Leeds U23 side hope to impress once again in the Elite Development League. He has already showcased his quality in the Championship and thus a move to Premier League will only help him enhance his skills.
Not to mention, the youngster may have a clear shot at making it into the senior side as well, given Leeds United’s lack of depth in the wide attacking department. The uncertain future of Helder Costa, Ezgjan Alioski and Rodrigo Moreno works in his favour as well – making him a smart long-term investment for the club.
