England locked horns with Scotland earlier tonight, hoping to pick up a win in the second game of their UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. The Three Lions certainly started the game on the front foot as they created a couple of golden chances in the first 20 minutes; however, the players seemed to run out of ideas after that. The visitors went close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions as well, but it’s their defence that deserves the credit for holding on England to a 0-0 draw.
Let’s take a look at how each England player fared during the clash against Scotland.
England Players Rated In Stalemate Vs Scotland
Jordan Pickford 8
The Everton shot-stopper was very active between the stick tonight. He made a couple of brilliant saves to keep his side in the game and played a brilliant long ball to Raheem Sterling around the 60-minute-mark.
Reece James 7
The Chelsea right-back should have hit the target with the chance that Harry Kane set up for him. Although he did well defensively, his attacking gameplay was not at all impressive.
Tyrone Mings 8
The Aston Villa centre-back made some crucial blocks and crunching tackles to prevent the opposition frontmen from finding the back of the net. He put up a commanding display alongside John Stones and secured a well-deserved clean sheet.
John Stones 8
The Manchester City defender hit the cross-bar in the first half from a set-piece situation, and that was arguably the closest England went to finding the back of the net tonight. Besides, he made a couple of crucial blocks to keep things in order at the back.
Luke Shaw 7
Much similar to Reece James, Luke Shaw failed to influence the game in the opposition half, but he fared well defensively.
Kalvin Phillips 6.5
The Leeds United star shielded the ball effectively at the centre of the park and made important challenges time and again to stop the Scottish counterattacks.
Declan Rice 6.5
The West Ham United man made numerous recoveries in midfield as he exhibited a tremendous work rate over the course of the game. He did a good job in shielding his side’s back-four.
Raheem Sterling 5
The 26-year-old failed to create anything significant for the Three Lions going forward and gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions. He often held on to the ball for too long, which slowed down the pace of England’s build-ups.
Mason Mount 7
Mainly operating down the left-hand side, Mount was too swift for the opposition defenders in the initial stages as they struggled to keep up with his pace. However, he misplaced some easy crosses over the course of the 90 minutes.
Phil Foden 6.5
The 21-year-old looked unstoppable in the opening 20 minutes or so, and he managed to penetrate Steve Clarke’s defence with some well-timed runs; however, he struggled to bring the ball under control in the final third.
Harry Kane 4
The Tottenham striker looked very lethargic up top tonight. His movements were not at all up to the mark as he seemed least interested in getting his name on the scoresheet. That’s two bad games in a row for the number 9!
SUBSTITUTES (England Players Rated In Stalemate Vs Scotland)
Jack Grealish 6.5
He won a couple of fouls after coming on in the 63rd minute, but that’s all he had to offer.
Marcus Rashford 6
The Manchester United man never got the chance to create an impact.
