Germany and England square off with one another on Tuesday, in what is going to be one of the most highly awaited fixtures in international football this year. It promises to be a fascinating contest in the Round of 16 tie of the UEFA Euro 2020 as a resurgent England hope to get the better of their long-time foes Germany, who were lucky to qualify from their group after drawing with Hungary in the last matchday. Here is our predicted Germany lineup Vs England.
Predicted Germany Lineup Vs England
Defence
Joachim Loew has not been dealt any with real injuries heading into this fixture, with all of the players except Lukas Klostermann being involved in team training. Therefore, we do not expect the German head coach to tinker with the central defensive trifecta of Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels and Antonio Rudiger.
They have been far from perfect in this tournament, putting out a rather disappointing display even against Hungary. So it will be imperative for Die Mannschaft to find their defensive solidity if they are to progress any further.
Ginter has played a versatile role in Germany’s backline. Although a right sided centre-back on paper, the Gladbach centre-back has mostly shifted out wide to act as an auxiliary right-back, who can provide cover for the marauding Joshua Kimmich. More of that is expected against England, although the player certainly needs to perform better.
Manuel Neuer, meanwhile, should continue in between the sticks for the Germans. He hasn’t had a great tournament and is still looking for his first clean sheet.
Midfield
Kimmich remains an automatic starter in the right-back position, due to the absence of Klostermann. The same can be said for Robin Gosens, who should get the nod ahead of Christian Gunter and Marcel Halstenberg on the opposite flank.
Kimmich is likely to drop into a central role whereas Gosens’ might want to make overlapping runs out wide, providing the width as well as creating more spaces for his fellow attackers.
Loew faces a selection dilemma in midfield, though. Leon Goretzka is back to full fitness and is pushing for a start after scoring the equaliser against Hungary. He should replace Ilkay Gundogan, thus partnering with Toni Kroos in the double-pivot.
Attack
As for the attack, Thomas Muller should return to the side after an injury precaution forced him on the bench against Hungary. He should accompany Kai Havertz in the attacking midfield slots, just behind Serge Gnabry as the false nine.
Joachim Loew will be tempted to use his other options as well, with Jamal Musiala making a noticeable impact after coming off from the bench in the last game. Timo Werner, Leroy Sane and Kevin Volland are other alternatives.
