In a recent report, Calciomercato has stated that Everton are locked in a three-way battle for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer. It is believed that the Toffees will have to compete with Crystal Palace and West Ham United in the race to sign the Welsh playmaker ahead of the new campaign (via Calciomercato).
Ramsey’s Up And Down Campaign In Italian Football
Ramsey had a solid season at Turin but struggled to find consistency in terms of his productivity in the final third. The Wales international found the back of the net twice and secured five assists in 30 appearances for Juve last season across all competitions.
The 30-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 1.1 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 87.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
The Caerphilly-born sensation has still got over two years remaining on his Juve contract, but the opportunity to seal a return to the Premier League might be too tempting for the player to turn down this summer.
Will Ramsey Be A Good Option For The Toffees This Summer?
Ramsey has got a great work rate as he tends to eat up a lot of ground at the centre of the park. He can shield his backline well when the opposition are on the front foot and is proficient at getting himself into some promising areas in the final third.
The 64-time Wales international can chip in by netting and setting up his fair share of goals from midfield but as mentioned earlier, he needs to be more decisive in and around the opponent’s box if he wants to be a consistent performer at the top level.
Ramsey hardly gives away the ball and has got a wealth of experience in English football from his time at Arsenal, so he won’t have any trouble settling into life in England if Everton can successfully lure him to Goodison Park this summer. At 30, the Juventus midfield ace still has a few good years left in his locker which makes him a decent option for the Toffees to consider during this summer transfer period.
Plus, a midfielder of Ramsey’s experience and skill set could add another dimension to Everton’s starting XI as they look to compete for some major silverware in the post-Carlo Ancelotti era at Merseyside. However, the Toffees should only think about getting him on board if they can land him for a reasonable fee in this off-season. Otherwise, they will be better off targeting a younger player as Ramsey won’t be a long-term option for them this summer.
