AS has recently reported that Barcelona are willing to give up two players for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. It is understood that the Catalan giants are planning to give up two of their squad members with the names of Antoine Griezmann, Sergi Roberto and Philippe Coutinho being mentioned as the ones to leave in exchange of the Portuguese forward’s services (via AS).
Ronaldo’s Outstanding Record At Turin Last Season
The 36-year-old enjoyed another incredible season at the Allianz Stadium as he put in several match-winning performances as an integral member of Juve’s frontline. Ronaldo banged in 36 goals and provided four assists in 44 matches in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Portuguese superstar was quite consistent with his offensive contributions after he averaged 5.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Serie A season. He was excellent when distributing the ball in the opposition half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Ronaldo is about to enter the final year of his Juventus contract, so Barca are in a good position if they can arrange a move to bring him to the Nou Camp during this summer transfer period. At 36, the Portugal international might still have a couple of good seasons left in him which is why Ronald Koeman should consider signing him on a short-term contract.
Will Ronaldo Be A Dream Signing For Barcelona This Summer?
Ronaldo has lost a yard of pace from his game but can still be a potent goal-threat up top. Despite turning 36 earlier this year, the Portuguese attacker has shown no signs of slowing down as he has continued to be a prolific goal-getter at the highest level. He has often preferred to play as a centre-forward but can still be effective as a wide player on either flank if needed.
The prospect of seeing Ronaldo linking up with Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp will be a mouth-watering one for anyone associated with the Catalan club. Hence, the Funchal-born forward will be a dream signing for Barca in this off-season as he will add plenty of firepower to Koeman’s frontline.
Ronaldo could even help the Spanish giants challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy once again over the next couple of seasons. However, he won’t be a long-term fix to Barca’s goal-scoring problems. Even then, Koeman should target Ronaldo this summer as he will make an immediate impact at Catalonia and could go on to form a dangerous attacking partnership with Messi next season.
