West Ham United took on Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to secure maximum points on the road and keep themselves firmly in the Premier League’s top-four race. Both sides fought hard in the first half but ended up canceling each other out as they went into the half-time interval with a 0-0 scoreline.
Danny Welbeck finally managed to break the deadlock for the Seagulls in the 84th minute when he scored with a classy finish. However, their lead lasted for just three minutes as Said Benrahma equalised for the Hammers with an excellent strike. The contest finished 1-1 with both teams sharing the points at the Amex.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the clash against the Seagulls.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 6/10
The Polish keeper made one solid save during the game but couldn’t do much to stop Welbeck from scoring in the 84th minute.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 6.5/10
Coufal tried his best to keep things tidy at the back and was quite lively in the Brighton half.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
He read the danger quickly and managed to earn the ball back a few times for his side. Dawson also came to his team’s rescue by blocking a few shots and was strong in the air as well.
CB: Angelo Ogbonna – 6.5/10
The Italian defensive ace did well to make some important interceptions at the heart of David Moyes’ defence. He also passed the ball well during the game.
LB: Aaron Cresswell – 7/10
Cresswell did not have to work too hard defensively but deserves a pat on the back for creating several good opportunities for his teammates to score.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7.5/10
The talented midfielder shielded his backline quite well and made some promising runs with the ball from midfield. He even had a couple of shots but there was no goal or assist for him tonight.
CM: Declan Rice – 6.5/10
The English midfielder contributed by doing a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. However, it was a far from convincing display from him.
RM: Jarrod Bowen – 6/10
Bowen orchestrated just one good chance during his time on the pitch.
CAM: Jesse Lingard – 7/10
The English playmaker was quite direct with his runs and even managed to fashion a couple of meaningful openings in the attacking third. However, he didn’t do nearly enough to get himself a goal.
LM: Pablo Fornals – 7/10
Fornals caused a few problems for the Brighton defenders but failed to get his name on the scoresheet.
ST: Michail Antonio – 6.5/10
He made some encouraging runs in the Seagulls half but was not clinical enough in front of goal.
Substitutes:
RM: Said Benrahma – 7.5/10
Benrahma came off the bench and salvaged a point for his side by scoring a late equaliser with a beautifully curled effort.
