In a recent report, The Athletic has revealed that West Ham United are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham this summer. It is understood that the Hammers are preparing to make a loan move for the English striker during the summer transfer window (via The Athletic).
Abraham’s Fall From Grace At West London This Season
Abraham has struggled to earn regular playing minutes under the stewardship of Thomas Tuchel and is currently surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old has made 32 appearances for the Blues this term, scoring 12 goals and grabbing six assists in multiple competitions.
A lot of his game time has come as a substitute which explains why the London-born sensation is only averaging 1.5 shots, 0.4 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. Abraham also needs to improve his accuracy when interchanging possession with others around him in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 72.7% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
At the moment, the 23-year-old is not a part of Tuchel’s first-team plans, so it is only logical for the player to seek a move elsewhere in search of more game time in the coming seasons when he hits the peak stage of his playing career.
Will Abraham Be The Right Choice For The Hammers?
Abraham is a moderately paced striker who can make some powerful runs towards the opposition penalty box. He can be a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing with confidence on the field.
The six-time England international can use his strong 1.90m frame to be a dominant presence in the air and can score his fair share of goals with his head. A target man of Abraham’s skillset will be a great choice for West Ham boss David Moyes to consider in this off-season as he is good enough to compete with Michail Antonio for a place in his starting XI next season.
At 23, Abraham has his best years ahead of him, so the East London outfit can expect to make the most out of his talent if they can convince their rivals, Chelsea, to sell their prized asset this summer. The English centre-forward will add more physicality and plenty of goals to the Hammers frontline which makes him a decent option for them to sign at the end of this campaign.
