In a recent report, The Times has provided an update on Liverpool‘s pursuit of Yves Bissouma who wants to leave his current club, Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of this campaign. However, it is believed that the Reds are facing competition in the form of Manchester City, Arsenal and Olympique Marseille in pursuit of the Mali international (via The Times).
Bissouma’s Impressive Form In English Football This Season
Bissouma has been a consistent feature at the heart of Graham Potter’s midfield and deserves a lot of credit for producing a run of dominant displays for the Seagulls over the past ten months. The 24-year-old has featured in 36 matches for Brighton this term, netting two goals in the process across all fronts.
The 18-time Mali international has given a good account of himself in midfield as he is averaging 2.8 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.5 dribbles per game in Premier League football this season. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 87.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
The Issia-born talent is still under contract at the American Express Community Stadium until the summer of 2023, so Potter has no immediate need to sell him. However, now that the player is asking to be transferred, the Seagulls could struggle to keep him happy which could open the door for the Reds to seal a move for him this summer.
What Will The Mali International Bring To Anfield?
Bissouma is a tough-tackling midfielder who can scan the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team. He can also put his foot through the ball to make a clearance when needed. What makes him such an important member of Brighton’s first-team is his ability to pull off some energetic dribbles from midfield. Plus, he can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range.
The Brighton star will bring plenty of bite and steel to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield department. Bissouma is also a good passer and can lead the press well in midfield that makes him a perfect fit for Liverpool’s brand of football at Anfield.
At 24, the Seagulls midfield ace is about to enter the prime years of his playing career, so the Merseyside giants can expect to make the most out of his services if they can find a way to get a deal done for him during the summer transfer window.
