Tottenham Hotspur entertained Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this evening as they hoped to bag all three points at home. Spurs made a bright start to the game and took the lead in the eighth minute when Steven Bergwijn found the back of the net with an excellent finish. However, Reguilon scored a freak own goal just 12 minutes later which put the Villans all level on the scoreline. In the 39th minute, Ollie Watkins pounced on another Reguilon mistake and put Villa ahead on the scoreline as Spurs went into the half-time interval 2-1 down and with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Both sides canceled each other out after the referee resumed play as the contest ended with Ryan Mason’s men suffering a disappointing 2-1 loss at North London.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the clash against the Villans.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10
The French keeper made a couple of saves but won’t be pleased after conceding two poor goals in the first half.
RB: Japhet Tanganga – 6.5/10
Tanganga cleared his lines when called into action on the defensive end of the field but failed to make an impact in the Villa half.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 6.5/10
The Belgian defensive ace put his body on the line to block a few goal-bound shots from the opposition and tried his best to keep things solid inside his half.
CB: Eric Dier – 7/10
Dier was a strong presence in the air and made some crucial clearances at the back. He also earned possession back a couple of times for his team.
LB: Reguilon – 3/10
The Spanish had a horror day at the office as he scored a freak own goal and then went on to commit another defensive mistake in the lead-up to Watkins’ goal in the first half.
CM: Harry Winks – 6.5/10
The English midfield ace successfully managed to disrupt the Villans’ rhythm in the game and made a couple of promising runs in the opposition half.
CM: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 6/10
He tried his best to protect his teammates at the back but struggled to influence the game in the final third.
RM: Stephan Bergwijn – 8/10
Bergwijn caused all sorts of problems for the opposition and opened the goal-scoring in the game with a brilliant finish in the eighth minute. He didn’t deserve to end up on the losing team today.
CAM: Dele Alli – 6/10
He tried to make things happen but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking end of the field.
LM: Heung-min Son – 5/10
The South Korea international offered very little in the final third. He never got a sniff at goal.
ST: Harry Kane – 6/10
Kane had a couple of shots but didn’t do nearly enough to get his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutes:
RM: Gareth Bale – 6/10
The Welsh winger added some energy to Tottenham’s attack.
CM: Tanguy Ndombele – 6/10
He struggled to get into the flow of the game.
RB: Matt Doherty – N/A
Doherty hardly had any time to make an impact.
