In a recent report, Goal has mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a keen eye on Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha this summer. However, it is believed that Spurs could face competition in the form of Everton in pursuit of the Ivory Coast winger who could now be available for less than £40m (via Goal).
Zaha’s Up And Down Campaign In English Football
Zaha has experienced a tough campaign at Selhurst Park as he struggled to bang in the goals consistently for the Eagles over the past ten months in league football. The 28-year-old has taken part in 31 matches for the South London outfit this term, netting 11 goals and grabbing two assists in the process across all competitions.
The Ivory Coast international has been a consistent performer for the Selhurst-based club and deserves credit for averaging 2.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass completion rate of 78.3% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Zaha is still under contract at Palace until the summer of 2023, so he would be a massive coup for Tottenham if they can get a deal done for him in this off-season. The lure of UEFA Europa League football could help Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to convince the player to make a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
Will Zaha Be A Decent Fit For Spurs?
Zaha is one of the paciest players in Premier League football and can get himself to the byline with ease by turning on the afterburners when needed. The 18-time Ivory Coast international is quite tricky in the way he operates in the final third and has developed a reputation for earning penalties for his side.
The former Manchester United talent is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline. He is primarily a left-winger but can fill in on the right flank or play as a centre-forward down the middle. A forward of Zaha’s pace, versatility and goal-threat will be a decent choice for Tottenham to consider during the summer transfer period.
At 28, Zaha is currently playing at his prime and would bolster the quality of Spurs’ starting XI significantly in the coming seasons. However, he is nowhere near the same level as Harry Kane as far as his goal-scoring or assist-making is concerned. Even then, Zaha will be a perfect fit for the North London giants as he is good enough to help them challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League next season.
