In a recent interview with The United Stand, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho would love to join Manchester United this summer. However, it is understood that the race for the English winger is still quite open as the Red Devils could face competition from Liverpool in pursuit of him at the end of this campaign (transcripted and translated by Sport Witness).
Romano said, “It’s an open race. What I’m told is it’s an open race. Last summer Manchester United were alone in the race, they had the opportunity to sign Sancho.
“They were really close and they didn’t sign him. Now United are in the race, the player loves the opportunity of joining Manchester United, so his position is not changing.
“He would love to join Manchester United. But also Liverpool are looking at the player if they sell some players in attacking positions.
Romano went on to add, “At the moment, it’s an open race, that’s how they describe the situation. But last summer, he was really one step away from joining United.
“He had an agreement with United, he had contract set and his agent had no problem with United. They never made any problems with the player. It’s not like this.
“Sancho wants to join, the agent wants Sancho to move. The situation is so clear – it’s up to United to decide if they want to pay or not for Sancho.
“Dortmund have changed their position. It’s not €120m, it’s less than €100m, so around €90m-€95m.
“The player is open to the move if an important bid will arrive. It’s up to Manchester United.”
Sancho’s Outstanding Form At Signal Iduna Park This Season
Sancho is having another encouraging campaign at Dortmund as he has once again been an influential member of their frontline. The English wing wizard has banged in 16 goals and provided 21 assists in 38 appearances for the German outfit this term across multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old has performed at a high level in the attacking third of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 shots, 2.6 key passes and 3.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season. Sancho has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 82.4% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should The Red Devils Get Sancho On Board This Summer?
Sancho remains one of the quickest wide players in European football and can get to the byline at will because of his electric pace and agility. In addition, he is a decent finisher in the final third and can also create some promising chances for others around him.
The 18-time England international is also an excellent crosser of the ball from the wide areas. Hence, he would be a shrewd, long-term acquisition for Man United if they can find a way to bring him to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
Sancho could be an upgrade over Daniel James and Mason Greenwood for the right-wing position in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first XI as they are both quite inexperienced at the highest level. Furthermore, he has what it takes to help the Red Devils challenge for the Premier League title once again in the coming seasons. All in all, Man United should consider getting him board as he is a generational talent who has already become one of the best players in his position.
