Real Madrid locked horns with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier tonight as they looked to win and keep their UEFA Champions League dreams alive this season. Los Blancos made a slow start to the contest and found themselves trailing in the 28th minute when Timo Werner scored the opener for the Blues from close range. The Madrid outfit failed to come up with a response and went into the half-time interval one goal down on the scoreline.
Zinedine Zidane’s men were lackluster in the second half and got punished for not learning from their mistakes at the back as Mason Mount scored with a neat strike in the 85th minute. The match finished with the Spanish giants suffering a poor 2-0 loss away at the English capital.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the clash against the Blues.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The Belgian keeper kept his team in the game by making some world-class saves in the second half. However, he won’t be pleased after shipping in two goals tonight.
CB: Eder Militao – 6.5/10
Militao won the ball back a couple of times and was tidy when distributing the ball out from the back.
CB: Sergio Ramos – 6/10
The Spaniard was strong in the air but struggled to cope with the intensity of the game. He was often too slow to react to the danger and put in a disjointed defensive performance during the game.
CB: Nacho – 5.5/10
He saw a lot of the ball but was a bit unconvincing when defending inside his half.
RM: Vinicius Junior – 6/10
He made some pacey runs with the ball and got stuck in with a few tackles. However, the Brazilian attacker never got a sniff at goal and was replaced after the hour mark.
CM: Toni Kroos – 6/10
The German sensation was too slow to get to the ball at times and struggled to create too many meaningful openings in the final third.
CM: Casemiro – 6.5/10
Casemiro won the ball back a couple of times but failed to get a stranglehold in midfield.
LM: Ferland Mendy – 6/10
He offered very little during his time on the pitch and got subbed in the second half.
CAM: Luka Modric – 6.5/10
Modric showed great energy to make some driving runs with the ball from midfield. He also engineered two good opportunities for his teammates up top.
ST: Eden Hazard – 6/10
The Belgian attacker didn’t have a good game against his former club but showed a few signs of promise in the Chelsea half.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6/10
The French striker was not clinical in front of the opponent’s goal and produced a lacklustre display tonight.
Substitutes:
LM: Federico Valverde – 6/10
He made one good chance going forward.
RM: Marco Asensio – 6/10
Asensio offered very little after coming off the bench.
ST: Rodrygo – 6/10
He hardly got going in the game.
ST: Mariano – N/A
Mariano did not get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
