In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Sunderland forward Kevin Phillips has tipped Norwich City full-back, Max Aarons, to be a star for Tottenham Hotspur if they manage to sign the player this summer. When asked about his opinion on such a move, Phillips said,
“He’s (Aarons) a great player.
“Any of the clubs who go for him and secure his services will know they’ve got a good young player who will perform for years.
“He would be a good signing. It depends on who comes in as manager and whether they want him.
“But if they (Tottenham) sign him, the club would be securing the services of an exciting young player who will only get better and better.”
Aarons’ Excellent Season At Carrow Road
Aarons is having a great season with the Canaries as he has put in several eye-catching displays as their primary right-back. His good form has helped the Norfolk outfit win the EFL Championship title and secure promotion back to the Premier League in the process.
The 21-year-old has participated in 47 matches for Daniel Farke’s side this term, registering two goals and five assists on all fronts. Aarons deserves a pat on the back for influencing the game at both ends of the field after he averaged 0.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the EFL Championship this season. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from the right flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Daniel Levy Get Aarons On Board This Summer?
Aarons can do a bit of everything from the right-back position and has transformed himself into a capable defender inside his half. He is often quick to react to the danger and can make some crucial interceptions for his team. The English right-back can clear his lines when called into action and possesses a decent pace under his belt that helps him make some darting runs down the right flank. The Canaries star is also a decent crosser of the ball and can pick up his fair share of assists in the attacking end of the field.
At 21, Aarons has got plenty of time left in his locker to prove his worth at the highest level. Hence, he could be tempted with the opportunity to join Spurs this summer if their chairman Daniel Levy can agree on a deal to bring him to the English capital.
Aarons has the potential to become a regular feature in Tottenham’s first-team and would add more creativity and defensive stability to the North London club’s backline. Hence, Levy should consider getting the Norwich youngster on board when the transfer window reopens later this year as he will be a welcome addition to Tottenham’s match-day squad in the long run.
