In a recent report, The Northern Echo has stated that Newcastle United are eyeing a loan move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury this summer. It is believed that the Magpies are showing interest in bringing the English midfield ace to St. James’ Park on loan during the summer transfer window (via The Northern Echo).
Choudhury’s Lack Of Gametime In English Football This Season
Choudhury has played another sporadic role for the Foxes over the past ten months but has performed well to put in some impressive displays at the centre of the park. The 23-year-old has taken part in 22 matches for the East Midlands outfit this term, scoring one goal in the process on all fronts.
Most of his appearances this season have come off the bench which explains why the Loughborough-born sensation is only averaging 0.9 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League this season. Still, he deserves credit for being careful when distributing the ball from midfield after making 82.3% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Choudhury is still under contract at the King Power Stadium until the summer of 2023, so he could benefit from sealing a loan move to another Premier League club so that he can come back as a stronger version of himself and reassess his Leicester future at the end of next season.
What Will The English Midfield Ace Bring To St. James’ Park?
Choudhury is a tough-tackling central midfielder who can time his challenges well to disrupt the opposition’s rhythm and earn possession back for his team. He is proficient at scanning the danger quickly and can work hard towards protecting his teammates at the back.
The English sensation is also a tidy passer of the ball but needs to add some goals and assists to his game if he wants to turn his fortunes around at the King Power. The recent loan success of Joe Willock at Newcastle should serve as proof that Steve Bruce can be an ideal candidate to oversee Choudhury’s development over the next 12 months.
The Leicester squad player will bring some much-needed depth to the Tyneside club and could help them compete across multiple competitions in the upcoming campaign. Furthermore, Choudhury could flourish playing as Newcastle’s primary holding midfielder next season and might offer some serious competition for Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Matthew Longstaff and Jeff Hendrick.
All in all, it is only logical for Bruce to make an attempt to bring Choudhury to Tyneside on loan in this off-season as he is a talented midfielder who could help Newcastle steer clear of relegation trouble in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
