Manchester United will lock horns with Villarreal at Gdansk Stadium on Wednesday evening, hoping to win their first silverware of the season. The Red Devils will be coming into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, whereas Unai Emery’s men recorded a 2-1 loss against Real Madrid.
Unai Emery will probably opt for the 4-4-2 formation with several tweaks from the last game. Paco Alcacer might get the nod over Carlos Bacca, whereas Sergio Asenjo looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.
4-4-2 Predicted Villarreal Line-up To Face Manchester United
Defence
As mentioned above, Sergio Asenjo is expected to start in goal for the upcoming clash. The Spanish shot-stopper would be looking to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Wednesday.
Raul Albiol will form the centre-half partnership with Pau Torres at the heart of United’s backline.
Mario Gaspar is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position, whereas Alfonso Pedraza will fill in on the other flank as the left-back. The duo would be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Manu Trigueros is expected to start in the central midfield position, whereas Etienne Capoue will slot in as the defensive midfielder. The duo would hope to dominate the midfield proceedings on Wednesday.
Yeremi Pino and Dani Parejo will take up the wide positions, playing on the right and left-wing respectively.
Moi Gomez will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he might be brought on in the latter stages of the match.
Attack
Gerard Moreno will lead the charge for Villarreal down the middle. The Spanish striker will fancy his chances of finding the back of the net when he faces off against the United defence that has kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches across all competitions.
Paco Alcacer will take up the secondary striker position. He’d to hoping to add to his goal-scoring tally against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in midweek.
