Manchester United entertained Liverpool at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to secure a positive result at home. The Red Devils made a dream start to the game as they scored the opener in the tenth minute when Bruno Fernandes found the back of the net with a deflected attempt. However, the visitors managed to get themselves back in the game in the 34th minute when Diogo Jota scored with an improvised finish. The Merseyside club grew in belief and got themselves ahead in the first-half injury time when Roberto Firmino found the back of the net with an excellent header.
Firmino managed to double his goal tally just two minutes into the second half with a tidy strike from close range. However, Marcus Rashford got a goal back for Man United which gave them some hope of a comeback. However, Mohamed Salah squashed those hopes by scoring a wonderful breakaway goal in injury-time as the contest ended with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men suffering a 4-2 defeat at the Theatre of Dreams.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Dean Henderson – 6.5/10
The English goalie pulled off a few excellent saves to keep the Liverpool attackers frustrated. However, he won’t be happy after conceding four goals tonight.
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7/10
Wan-Bissaka was once again Man United’s best defender as he often came out on top when left isolated in a 1v1 situation. He was also quite lively in the Liverpool half and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
CB: Eric Bailly – 5/10
He struggled to cope with the intensity of Liverpool’s attacks and produced a disjointed display in central defence during his time on the field.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 6/10
The Swedish defensive ace made a few errors inside his half but was strong in the air. He also cleared the danger when called into action.
LB: Luke Shaw – 6/10
Defensively, he was a bit all over the pace but in offence, he created quite a few encouraging openings for his teammates in the attacking third.
CM: Scott McTominay – 6/10
McTominay showed a lot of aggression with his tackles and got cautioned for his efforts.
CM: Fred – 6/10
The Brazilian midfield ace struggled to get a stranglehold in the game and had very few moments to cheer about.
RM: Marcus Rashford – 7.5/10
Rashford impressed in patches but did well to get a goal back for his team. He also should have scored with the last kick of the game when he was through on goal.
CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 7.5/10
The Portuguese playmaker was fortunate to score with a deflected attempt in the first half. He went close to scoring on a few occasions but was left frustrated by the Reds.
LM: Paul Pogba – 6/10
He was at fault for not tracking Firmino’s run in the lead up to Liverpool’s second goal. There was also no goal or assist for him tonight.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 5/10
Cavani was mostly isolated up top and lacked sharpness in front of the opponent’s goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Mason Greenwood – 6/10
The youngster went close to scoring but got denied by some valiant Liverpool defending.
CM: Nemanja Matic – N/A
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
