Manchester City clashed heads with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier today as they hoped to earn a victory on the road and move one step closer to securing the Premier League title. Both teams fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but were not clinical enough in the final third as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
Man City scored two quick-fire goals in the second half through Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres just before the hour mark. The home side failed to come up with a response as the contest finished 2-0 in favour of the Mancunian giants away at South London.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the clash against the Eagles.
GK: Ederson – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made some important saves at the back and did enough to restrict the Eagles from scoring during the 90 minutes.
RB: Joao Cancelo – 8/10
Cancelo maintained a solid shape at the back and pulled off a few crucial interceptions for his side. He also made some promising runs down the right flank.
CB: Nathan Ake – 7/10
He read the danger quickly and cleared his lines when required. Ake was also tidy when passing the ball out from the back.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7.5/10
Laporte was strong in the air and performed well defensively to get over the line with the clean sheet intact.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 7.5/10
The French full-back didn’t have too much defending to do but made two exciting dribbles down the left-wing. He also created a couple of decent chances in the final third and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
RM: Ferran Torres – 9/10
The Spaniard was a breath of fresh air as he caused all sorts of problems for the Eagles defenders. He scored a great goal with a curled effort in the second half which sealed the points for Man City.
CM: Fernandinho – 7.5/10
The Brazilian sensation got stuck in with a few tackles to disrupt the opposition’s flow in the game. He ran out of energy and got replaced in the second half.
CM: Rodri – 8/10
Rodri managed to add some bite and steel to Man City’s midfield and had a couple of lively moments in the Palace half.
LM: Raheem Sterling – 7/10
The English wing wizard got plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking end of the field.
CAM: Sergio Aguero – 8/10
The South American sensation was a real nuisance for the Eagles defenders and opened the goal-scoring with an excellent finish in the 57th minute.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – 6.5/10
Jesus orchestrated some decent openings for others around him but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
