According to Daily Mail, Gabriel Jesus has emerged as an option for Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Manchester City forward is among the players who could be signed as part of an exchange deal, as the Lilywhites prepare for life without Harry Kane. The Englishman, in turn, is courted by both the Manchester clubs, who are most likely to prepare player plus cash deals in an effort to sign the Tottenham striker.
Gabriel Jesus: Player Profile
Gabriel Jesus came to England back in 2017, as a long-term replacement for the attacking duo of Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero. Although he has mostly had to live under the shadow of the latter, the forward has slowly established himself as a reliable first-team option for Manchester City.
In almost 200 appearances in all competitions, the Brazilian has netted 81 goals for his club. Unfortunately, it has not been enough, with many experts and fans criticising the forward for not being lethal enough in front of the goal.
While Jesus is certainly no Aguero, he possesses a very different and distinctive skill-set, particularly when it comes to offering movement in the final third. He quite resembles someone like Thomas Muller, and although the forward may not have the same tactical sense as his German counterpart, he makes up for it with his pace – making him a scourge on the counter.
In addition, the Manchester City star has mustered a vast amount of experience at the highest level of football – having made 129 Premier League appearances while winning 40 caps for Brazil.
Is He A Good Option For Tottenham?
Gabriel Jesus is certainly an interesting option for Tottenham Hotspur for multiple reasons. For one, he is an experienced star, who has proven himself in the Premier League and shouldn’t require much time settling into a new English club.
From a tactical perspective, though, the Brazilian is not a like for like replacement for Kane. He lacks the necessary predatory instincts to become Tottenham’s main centre-back. What he does have, however, is the technical prowess as well as the pace that can make him an ideal partner to someone like Son Heung-Min in the final third.
Indeed, Gabriel can be used either as a runner or a dynamic winger and is versatile enough to play in both roles. It should tune in well with Son, thus allowing Spurs to offload other fringe players in the side including the likes of Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn in the summer while Gareth Bale’s loan contract expires at the end of the season.
The right move from Daniel Levy, therefore, could be to sign Gabriel Jesus as part of the deal for Kane while signing a new natural number nine, who can replace the departing Englishman. It could solve a major problem in the Spurs attack, even potentially making them a feared side in the Premier League next season.
