In a recent report, Goal has revealed that Liverpool defender Rhys Williams could be loaned out this summer. It is understood that the Reds are likely to let the promising youngster leave on loan this summer so that he can further accelerate his development away from Anfield (via Goal).
Williams’ Decent Form For Liverpool This Season
Williams has enjoyed an impressive season at Merseyside this season as he has produced some eye-catching performances at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence. The Preston-born starlet has made 19 senior appearances for the Reds this term but failed to register a goal across various competitions.
The 20-year-old has done well to average 0.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this season. He has even distributed the ball well out from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.2% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
The early signs have been quite promising from Williams but he will struggle to get any game time at Anfield next season. Hence, he could benefit from sealing a loan move this summer so that he can earn regular playing minutes in senior football.
Williams Likely To Be Loaned Out: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Williams has shown great maturity to settle into Jurgen Klopp’s style of play well and is now quite confident at playing his way out from the back. He is a decent tackler of the ball and can make some vital interceptions on the defensive end of the field.
Plus, the English prospect is not afraid to clear his lines when in danger of being exposed in and around his penalty box. However, like many players of his age, Williams tends to commit a mistake every now and then which is why he needs to go out on loan to gain more experience and come back as a better version of himself next year.
At 20, Williams still has plenty of time to prove his worth at the highest level. However, for now, his loan departure will be a good move for both the player and the Merseyside club. The English defensive ace has shown that he can be a valuable squad player, but whether any other Premier League club decide to take him on loan this summer remains to be seen.
