In a recent report, talkSPORT has mentioned that Leicester City are in pole position to sign LOSC Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare this summer. It is understood that the Foxes are close to completing a summer move for the French youngster (via talkSPORT).
Soumare’s Impressive Form At The Stade Pierre Mauroy This Season
Soumare is enjoying another majestic campaign in French football and has successfully established himself as a key member of Christophe Galtier’s first team. The 22-year-old has participated in 42 matches for the French outfit this term, picking up two assists across all fronts.
The French midfield ace has caught the eye by averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League this season. Soumare has taken care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.2% in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
The early signs have been quite promising from the Lille youngster but there are some question marks over whether he would be able to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Leicester end up bringing him to the King Power Stadium in this off-season.
Is Soumare The Right Choice For The Foxes?
Soumare is a moderately paced midfielder who can make some clever runs with the ball towards the opposition penalty area. He has proven himself to be a capable defensive midfielder as he is proficient at reading the danger quickly and earning possession back for his team.
The French youngster is a decent tackler of the ball and does not hesitate to clear his lines when in danger of being exposed at the back. However, he needs to add a few more goals and assists to his game if he wants to be a world-class two-way player in the future.
At 22, Soumare has plenty of time to fulfill his true potential, so Leicester would be wise to engineer a move to get him on board this summer. His ability to protect the backline effectively throughout the whole 90 minutes makes him a decent fit for Brendan Rodgers’ side this summer.
With all things considered, Soumare will be a great choice for the Foxes as he is good enough to provide some serious competition for Youri Tielemans, Hamza Choudhury, Nampalys Mendy and Wilfred Ndidi at the King Power Stadium in the coming seasons.
