According to The Sun, as cited by Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are interested in Calum Gallagher. The Chelsea midfielder, currently on loan at West Brom, is reportedly keen on fighting for his place at Stamford Bridge next season, but the Whites are ready to offer a proposal for a move to Elland Road, albeit in a temporary deal.
Conor Gallagher’s Spell At West Brom
Conor Gallagher joined West Brom last summer, in a season-long deal from Chelsea. The youngster had two seasons of Championship experience, so it didn’t take him long to establish himself as a key first-team player for Hawthorns.
In the span of just a season, Gallagher has now emerged as one of the rising stars at West Brom, making 27 appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals and registering two assists.
A central midfielder by trade, the 21-year-old has impressed the onlookers with his dynamic style of play. He offers a lot of energy in the middle of the park and has a quick decision making skill that allows him to rotate the ball under pressure as well as releasing forward balls to launch quick counter-attacks.
Gallagher is also adept in pressuring the ball carrier, thanks to his energy and a tenacious style of play that goes hand in hand with the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.
Is Gallagher A Good Option For Leeds United?
Conor Gallagher is equipped with the ideal set of characteristics that could help him thrive under the leadership of Marcelo Bielsa. His quick decision-making, dynamism and tenacity, in particular, should make him an ideal cog in the second line of press for a Leeds side that love to apply pressure on the opposing ball carriers.
In possession, the Chelsea youngster has the ability to pick out forward passes – much like Mateusz Klich. It makes him a tailor-made fit for Bielsa’s tactical philosophy.
Gallagher can also offer versatility to the table, as he can play not only as a holding midfielder but also in a much more attacking role. It should make him an ideal partner to someone like Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas.
Leeds United itself is not an unappealing destination for Gallagher either, as the Whites have established themselves as a top-half Premier League side and might even mount a challenge for European places next season. However, they should definitely look to secure a buyout clause if they are to secure the services of the Chelsea youngster on loan this summer.
